WBBC - Presidents Charity 2023

05 Jun 2023

Dear WBBC Member

This season your committee have decided to support the Dementia Carers Support Group who are located in
the JohnD Club at the New Haw Community Centre and Alzheimer’s Research UK.
There are some leaflets in the clubhouse for you look at.  The money we raise will be split between the Carers
Support Group and Alzheimer’s Research UK.

There is a charity box on the bar and ‘Ron Bias’ needs filling up with pound coins, when we bowl a wrong bias!

Don’t forget to support the Presidents Charity Day in July.  More information on this will follow.

What we do.

Caring for someone with dementia can be extremely complicated.  Getting time to be alone or to have a
break can be just as complicated and often leads carers to feeling isolated.

We are a group of carers who are all struggling with the same challenges and we are here to listen and help.
We offer weekly support groups to monthly lunch clubs and social events, to ensure that you do not go
through this difficult time on your own.

Support Groups

Our informal groups, give carers of those with dementia the opportunity to meet others in a similar situation,
with the comfort that their loved ones are being supported too.
Whilst your loved one is enjoying the activities
overseen by our volunteers, you are able to relax with a cup of tea, and share the company of others who
understand the problems caring for a dementia sufferer brings.

Our clubs are for you and your loved one to be able to spend social time together which is so difficult
due to the nature of the illness.

Information about the Alzheimer’s Research UK

Dementia impacts the very core of who we are, our connection to the world, the people we love, the memories we cherish.
With dementia, we slowly lose these. No one should have to endure the heartbreak of dementia.  That’s why Alzheimer’s Research exists.

Today, there are few treatment options for people with dementia. Existing treatments are limited in their scope and
don’t work for all forms of dementia. But donations like yours are helping change this.

Thanks to research there is a new generation of treatments on the horizon that tackle the underlying disease.

Our Drug Discovery Alliance is working on over 20 potential new drugs for dementia right now and there
are also over a dozen dementia treatments being tested in the final stages of clinical trials. It’s advances like this that will lead us towards a cure.

For every £1 donated, 73p powers our life-changing research and helps people to understand and take action on dementia.
The remaining 27p raises our next £1 and funds essential running costs.

We continually focus on running the charity as efficiently as possible, including using volunteers wherever we can.  We're totally transparent.
