The inaugural Meeting of the Club was held on 7th September 1967 in the Bowls Pavilion at West Byfleet Recreation Ground. The minutes are included below.
It was agreed that Mr Huddlestone of Camera Sports should be invited to become President of the Club.
Matches arranged for 1968 were: - Byfleet (away), Woking (home and away), Chertsey (home and away) and Addlestone (home and away).
The first Club Day didn’t take place until the 27th of April 1968. The Membership List of 1968 shows that the club had sixty-three members. The Annual Club Subscription was 10s. With a Season ticket paid to Woking UDC of £3.0s.0d. The Club had a balance of £1. 5s. 6d.
The ladies had their first meeting on 4th February 1968 in which they decided on the style and material for their dress, a white crimpoline dress with the Club badge on the pocket. The material for the dresses were obtained by the ladies at Garnett Jones. A discount for all members of 12.5% was arranged and could be obtained by showing the rule card.
The club had purchased an 18-piece tea set for £1. 4s. 6d.
Score cards had been secured from ‘News of the World’. Mr. Huddlestone had secured a gift from ‘Players’ of 300 cigarettes for prizes.
The Chairman Mr. Andrews arranged for the Woking Herald to be present at the opening on 27th April to photograph Mr. Huddlestone the President sending up the first wood. The secretary reported that Horsell, Chertsey, Whitely Village and Byfleet had all agreed to include ladies in the matches.
The Tea Secretary Mrs Heywood suggested that tea & biscuits should also be served on days when no match is played at a charge of 6d. Members playing in matches, whether at home or away would be asked to pay 3s. for tea including the grounds man tip.
The date for the Annual Dinner has been fixed for 12th October at the Byfleet Hotel. Cost of tickets was £1. 17s. 6d.
The Chairman suggested an approach was made to Byfleet Bowls Club and the Parish Day Committee to allow a match between the two clubs on Parish Day 1969. This match has continued to be played nearly every year since.
