Fire Safety Assessment – April 2026

Fire Hazards

Several potential fire hazards have been identified within the club premises. These include all electrical equipment such as lighting, fans, wall heaters, urn, fridges, freezer, water heaters, kettles, microwave oven, bar coolers, hedge trimmer and mowers. There is also a risk associated with loose paper, cardboard, rubbish, smoking, petrol, paint, white spirit and chemicals.

People at Risk

The individuals most at risk in the event of a fire are club members and visitors.

Fire Precautions and Prevention Measures

  • Fire extinguishers are installed in both the clubhouse and the machinery shed.
  • Specialist fire extinguishers for electrical fires are available in the kitchen and bar areas.
  • A fire blanket is in the kitchen.
  • All fire safety equipment is tested annually under contract and replaced as required. The test certificate is displayed on the Secretary’s notice board (last checked March 26).
  • Two smoke alarms are fitted in the clubhouse and are tested regularly.
  • All small electrical items are PA tested annually and replaced as needed (last tested March 26).
  • Electrical control boxes and wiring are tested every five years and have been recently rewired (in 2025).
  • Petrol is stored in approved containers and kept in a metal cage within the machinery shed, with controlled access.
  • Paint, white spirit and cleaning chemicals are stored in a lockable metal cabinet in the equipment shed.
  • Correct signage is in place for emergency exits and extinguishers. Smoking is strictly prohibited in all club buildings.
  • Emergency exit doors are located next to the bar and at the front door, positioned at opposite ends of the clubhouse.
  • All unnecessary electrical items must be switched off when vacating the premises, including kettles, water heaters, urn and microwave cooker. Cables should be checked for damage before use.
  • Rubbish must be removed from the premises and taken home.

In Case of Fire

  1. Raise the alarm using the handbell and evacuate all buildings. Ensure toilets are checked. Assemble on the grass verge outside the club gates.
  2. Call the Fire Brigade on 999. Upon their arrival, inform them of the locations of petrol cans and chemicals.
  3. If it is safe, tackle the source of the fire using the appropriate extinguisher or fire blanket.
  4. Ensure no one remains in the clubhouse. Do not evacuate cars from the car park, as this may hinder emergency vehicles’ access.
